Pub annex to The Langham Hotel, London
The Wigmore’s menu is overseen by Michel Roux Jr and is attached to The Langham hotel. An attractive, high ceiling ex-spa area has been converted to create a pub-like feel. Bar snacks were opted for on this lunch visit owing to time. Cheese and ham croquettes were very nicely done but felt a little scarce for the price of £5.50; a scotch egg was more elaborate using a quail egg (perfectly runny) and coated in thin pasta strips and deep-fried creating a nest, resting on a bed of masala and yoghurt sauce. This was very good although the sausage meat and masala sauce were a touch subtle. Triple cooked chips were dusted with a tomato powder and spiced with chilli, fennel, Sichuan pepper, salt and star anise; this was a very good seasoning indeed. If it was just the two snacks lunch would have been £11.75 plus service and with chips came to £16.75 which is a reasonable amount but unsubstantial lunch at the same time. Therefore, another lunch visit will need to be made to sample the menu further but initial signals are good and I am keen to come back.
