Authentic Malaysian food at reasonable prices
Normah’s is an unassuming cafe-like restaurant serving authentic Malaysian food in the corner of Queensway market. Each diner is greeted with a card of the owner, Normah Abd Hamid, who opened Normah’s in March 2015. The key base to the dishes, similar to Singaporean cuisine rests in the sambal paste (chilli sauce) which, here was particularly good with its inclusion of dried shrimp within the Mee Mamak, a prawn and tofu noodle dish, thickened with sweet and spicy sauce – this was well above average. The prawn laksa was also rich and creamy from its coconut sauce and the complimentary roti that came with it was akin to similar breads I have had in the highest-end Indonesian restaurants. Teh Tarik (tea with condensed milk) was always going to be a pleasant addition and was indeed and the whole meal for two came to just under £30 which, for this level of Asian (Malaysian in this case) cuisine, is utterly superb value for money. Well recommended, especially if you are keen on authentic Malaysian cooking.
