Fusion Thai and Bahamian restaurant on the top floor of the chic Island House Hotel
Shima is the flagship restaurant of the glamorous 5* Island House hotel in West Nassau. Being on the top floor it has lovely views of the plush swimming pool and garden areas of the hotel and beyond from its open air terrace and stylish wooden beam interior with banquets and booths. The menu is mainly Thai with Bahamian influences and in searching the island of Nassau for a good brunch option, this stood out. I was pleased to be proved right with a lovely take on Eggs Royale using smoked salmon, Thai basil & coriander hollandaise on roti which was a great pleasure. Other dishes included prawn Pad Thai (rice noodles, bean sprouts, roast peanuts, tofu crisps) and a well-constructed special fried rice (chicken, caramelised pork, shrimp paste, green beans, bean sprouts, coriander, wok fried egg). Nowhere in Nassau is cheap and the average price of each brunch dish here sat at $28 which is obviously quite expensive for brunch, but it’s either that or average dishes from average hotels or conveyer belt avocado toast from Dunkin’ Doughnuts. I’d recommend this option if you had to choose.
