Lauded chain of 'coffee house' cafes in Singapore
Toast Box is probably the most common and accepted ‘go to’ chain of coffee houses in Singapore. It serves reliable all day breakfast options including the famous kaya toast set. Kaya is a sweet jam (green in colour) made from pandas leaves and sometimes includes coconut as well and this is spread on buttered toast which is then used to dip in to softly cooked eggs with a mix of dark and light soy sauces with white pepper (to taste). Customers are given the eggs in the shells and crack open themselves when sat down and mix in their preference of soy and pepper. This comes with a choice of tea or coffee, usually with condensed milk in a choice of combinations as a set menu for around £3. This represents frankly brilliant value for money and the combination of salt from the soy, sweet from the pandan, mopped up with large toast and the richness of the butter and egg makes this a guaranteed and superb which I have almost every morning when I am in Singapore. If you have not been to Singapore before, I’m afraid this is a 100% non-negotiable and a staple of Singaporean food tradition you must have at least once on your visit. I have to grade the food for what it is, with the usual criteria which is why it cannot gain a huge score, but this does not paint how marvellous and utterly perfect this combination and set menu is on any given morning.

My hobby-turned-passion began to evolve during my assignments to London where I was fortunate enough to be able to explore all the Michelin starred restaurants in my spare time and as a result, I gradually built up a catalogue of all these venues.
