Cosy and stylish neighbourhood restaurant serving heartfelt food
Utterly superb value at this restaurant located a short walk from the Cardiff city centre and a great option for lunch especially. The three course meal for two people and half bottle of wine in a caraffe for £35 (for two people) is superb value for money when the quality of the food was as it was. There was obvious and real care that went in to the products here from the home made bread, carefully sourced butter and wonderful soup as examples. A reasonable option with some enjoyable moments.
I always like going for the very simple dishes sometimes as they are the perfect test to see how much attention to detail a place is concerned with – if they can do the very basic things really well (such as soup, bread and salads for example), then I find it is a very good litmus test and bodes very well for the dishes they are more proud of. The food on this occasion was all good with a very good apple and brie salad. In fact the only things I did not agree with was the dessert being a little too sweet and the fish main being over a bit too quickly, but all in all these were minor things and the overall effect was extremely good. A definite option to go to on any return to Cardiff and wouldn’t surprise me at all if this was the flagship of the neighbourhood options.
