Superb and original delicatessen from the Executive Chef of The Cocochine
The Rex Deli is the delicatessen sister venue of The Cocochine restaurant – the latter named after the daughter of the owner and Rex after his son. The chef behind the Rex is the same as the Cocochine, Larry Jayasekara which is the first reason to take this Deli seriously. There are many reasons why this is my confirmed favourite spot in the whole of London and all are listed in the summary box for the positives. It is simply a joy to come here for a pie that is stunning in quality for pastry, filling and herbs (the chicken and leek) for £6.50 and grab a large pie to take away (circa £20) for supper. The Deli also turns in to an evening supper menu and restaurant in the evening that serves some seriously good offerings such as Venison tartare with home made crisps and emulsion dots, sausage roll (also available during the day), a knock out creme brûlée and quality triple cooked chips. This really is a wonderfully good option for daytime drop ins but also the dinner menu in the evening is one of the best value offerings for quality of food with a very reasonable wine list as well – for example, an incredible £14 for a glass of Billecart Salmon champagne. Apart from the stools becoming a bit uncomfortable if sitting on for longer periods, there really is nothing to not like about this Grade 2 listed ex-Stable now stand out and unique Deli serving quality options for comparably amazing value.
